Lyra's heart raced as she realized that Roger's life was in danger, and she knew that she had to act quickly. She confronted Farder Coram, using the Golden Compass to extract the truth from him. In a climactic showdown, Lyra learned the fate of Roger and discovered the truth about the Child of Ice—their very lives were at stake.

As the battle between the Gyptians and the Magisterium raged on, Lyra was forced to make a difficult choice. Would she side with the Gyptians, who were fighting for their survival and the truth, or would she align herself with the Magisterium, which she now understood was protecting the world from an even greater danger?
